Sarah and Mark think that the government is not involved enough in the family. What do you think should be the limits of government involvement in parenting and why?
First of all I think that Sarah and Mark need to re-think their statement that government should be more involved in the family. The government is meant to protect our rights as citizens, not in how we run our lives. We have rights to freedom of speech, press, dear arms and so forth, so who are they to tell parents how to raise their kids? Every single person on this earth has different values and beliefs and different things that they wish, or wish not to, instill in their children and the government will never be able to get it "just right" so that all religions, values, and so forth will be spoken for. Other than that, I think that the children should have a say in all of this. No matter how hard some parents may try, kids are who they are and think the way that they want to think; they aren't robots and we can't force them to believe in a certain religion, or certain values just by telling them that they "have to". It takes time to instill values in a child and it can only be achieved taking the time to slowly guide them in the direction you want them to go. Kids can't be told how to do everything, they need to figure stuff out on their own, it's how they grow and learn form their mistakes. The parents are there to get them through the mistakes and share with them the mistakes they made so that their children won't do it themselves. Over all, I believe that the government should have faith in the way that parents parent their children and shouldn't over step their boundaries; they have too many other things to worry about anyways...
